Why the work here looks the way it does
Islington grew from the 1870s as workers cottages and terraces for Newcastle's rail yards and, later, the BHP steelworks, with a wave of Italian settlers arriving from 1947.
Much of that stock still stands, now joined by apartment and townhouse infill along the Throsby Creek corridor.
What that means on the ground:
- Old cottages carry short-jointed earthenware drains and corroded galvanised supply, so camera work and repipes feature heavily in the local run
- New infill runs modern copper and PVC, but strata sign-off shapes how and when the work happens
